Summer Outfits For Women: A Personal Stylist’s Guide

summer styles for women

As a personal stylist and wardrobe consultant, I’m asked every year how to dress well in summer but with the current heat wave this question is popping up constantly! Here in Nashville the heat has been off the charts so I’ve been experimenting with different summer styles and can’t wait to give you a breakdown!

Summer Work Outfits

An important element of elevated summer outfits is accessorizing! Even if it’s blazing hot and humid you can make your outfit look complete by adding layering necklaces, statement earrings, or adding a hairband. I highly recommend getting strategic with fabrics and avoiding tight-fitting clothes. I choose looser styles like wide-leg cropped pants and breathable fabrics like cotton and linen for my clients when we’re doing personal shopping in the summer. If you don’t know how to pick fabrics well check out my Clothing Care 101 course for a breakdown. Hot weather should never keep you from being the best-dressed person at the office!

Casual Summer Outfits

An easy trick to level up your casual summer outfits is being intentional with your color palette! An old stylist's trick is to create a monochromatic (all the same color) or tonal outfit (shades of the same color). Even if the outfit is simple (i.e. just a tank and shorts), the color palette will add interest and impact. You can also use the “3 color rule”. In other words, limit your outfit to 3 colors only. It immediately adds a feeling of coordination without looking too matchy-matchy.

Use the casual summer outfit ideas below to help you dress with confidence!
